VESTRY FACT SHEET March 27. 2008
Answers to commonly asked questions: 1. How much will the church cost? Building $2,270,738 Furnishings 127,000 Contingencies 102,262 $2,500,000 2. How will we pay for it? (We already own the land) Cash on hand $900,000 Mortgage 1,600,000 $2,500,000 3. How will we pay the mortgage? Our track record has shown that our members have given over $1,000,000 for the building from 2004 to the present. We believe they will continue to give at or above the same rate. We have building pledges for 2008 and 2009 totaling $240,000, enough to pay the monthly mortgage for these years. In addition we will be asking for pledges for the 25% of the parish who are new and have not yet pledged, as well as asking for new building pledges for the years 2010-2013.Having raised $1,000,000 in four years, we believe we can pay off $1,600,000 in less than 10 years (the mortgage gives us up to 30). 4. How can we afford to operate 2 campuses? There will be no additional operating expense until late Spring 2009. For 2010, we estimate the need for an additional $60,000 mostly for building maintenance. We do not plan to add staff. The average operating pledge at St. John the Divine is $1,500, so we would need 40 new average pledges by 2010. We believe we will grow by more than that number to pay the additional costs. 5. Will we need more Clergy? Not immediately but we hope we will grow enough to need them in time. 6. When will the new church be completed? We believe Spring of 2009. 7. Why don't we sell the Ruskin Campus? We decided not to at our annual meeting of 2006. Everything we have done since is based on having 2 campuses. The new building is not designed to provide everything we need. It has no classrooms, only one meeting room, and assumes the offices will remain in Ruskin. In Phase 2, the Sun City Center Campus will have these things. 8. When will Phase 2 begin? As soon as the mortgage is paid for Phase I and the Vestry and the Bishop decide. 9. Won't people need to choose between campuses? No. Many activities will be inclusive of both. 10. What is the plan for Sunday Services? They are currently: 8:00 service at the Sun City Center, with music if this congregations desires it. 9:00 service at Ruskin with Redemption Band 11:00 service at Sun City Center with Choir (Band participation if congregations desires it.) Plans are fluid and we will ask for input. Times for adult forums and Sunday School will also be available. 11. Won't 2 campuses divide us? Not necessarily. We have One Church, 2 Campuses One Lord, 2 Buildings Our fellowship, our ministries and our faith in Christ unite us. 12. When will we be able to give memorials for the new church? We are working on a list, and it will be available by November, 2008.
